ATLANTA JOINS GLOBAL MARIJUANA MARCH
ATLANTA MARCH ROUTE AND POST- MARCH EVENT INFORMATION
Marches scheduled in 200 cities worldwide
The
“Million Marijuana March” has been
scheduled for Saturday May 5th, in downtown Atlanta.
This annual marijuana legalization event is organized
by the New York City organization “Cures Not
Wars” and is sponsored by the Atlanta Chapter
of C.A.M.P., Coalition for the Abolition of Marijuana
Prohibition.
The
cannabis activists plan to assemble at 11:00 a.m. in HURT
PARK adjacent to the Georgia State University campus, at
the corner of Edgewood Avenue and Courtland Avenue. The march is
scheduled to pass the Georgia State Capital, Atlanta City Hall,
The Fulton County Government Center, Woodruff Park, and
continue up Peachtree Street to International Boulevard, and then to
continue down to the CNN Center, where they will demand that
the media giant cover this worldwide event.
The MMM is a variety of
organizations joining in protest against present laws governing
cannabis, with regard to medicinal marijuana, hemp, legal status as
a controlled substance, and the reform of present penalties for
possession and personal use of cannabis in the City and the State of
Georgia.
CAMP
is presently involved in a Federal Court Case against the City of
Atlanta concerning the City’s Outdoor Festival Ordinance. CAMP
argues that the ordinance is restrictive and acts as a form of prior
restraint of free speech and assembly, one argument being that the
statutory 90-day advance application requirement is
unconstitutional. The CAMP Legal Defense Fund, Inc. is presently
pursuing a appeal in Federal court against the City of Atlanta over
other provisions of the City’s Festival Ordinance.
This year’s Global March
is to be held in 200 cities worldwide on the same day, The
target of the march in Atlanta is the Fifth Estate, mainly
CNN NEWS CENTER, downtown Atlanta. The international promoter
of the event is CURES NOT WARS in NYC.
