CANNABIS 2000

NEWS RELEASE:   APRIL 12, 2000  -  ATLANTA

Coalition for the Abolition of Marijuana Prohibition  (C.A.M.P.) presents:

The MILLENNIUM MARIJUANA MARCH
The 9th Annual Great Atlanta Pot Festival
SATURDAY, MAY 6th, 2000

Last year on Saturday, May 1st, 1999, cannabis activists from around the world stood up and declared with one voice, solidarity in opposition to the oppression and tyranny of the United States' war on the cannabis culture. For the last thirty years the U.S. Government has waged a war on its own citizenry and has now forced this war on the peoples of the world.  This year a unified resistance has been undertaken.

DEMONSTRATORS in ATLANTA will assemble at HIGH NOON in front of Atlanta City Hall East.  The March will begin at 1pm and proceed up Ponce de Leon Avenue west to Peachtree Street and then turn south on Peachtree Street to International Boulevard and will turn north to proceed down International Boulevard.  The march will pass in front of the CNN CENTER and the ATLANTA CHAMBER of COMMERCE (Drugs don't Work) and then enter the Centennial Olympic Park.  The program is scheduled from 1- 6pm.  Participants will enjoy speeches from pro-cannabis authorities and sympathetic music from pro-hemp bands. First Amendment materials will be available.

SPEAKERS featured will include the enlightened hempologist and author of 'The Emperor Wears No Clothes', Jack Herer; the 1999 candidate for Governor of Kentucky, Gatewood Galbraith; and Presidential nominee of the Greens Party, Steven Gaskin from Tennessee.

Join us for a day of protest on SATURDAY, MAY 6th, 2000 - Marches in over 90 cities,
19 countries, on six continents worldwide.

WORLDWIDE LOCATIONS:  www.cannabis2000.com/mmm/mmm1_4.htm

Internet websites all over the world are on line to distribute the complete information on all of these demonstrations (in many languages). The internet revolution has made this event, the largest single direct action for the reform of cannabis law in the history of the world!

Over ONE MILLION people in the streets!

AUSTIN, TX

MARIJUANA MARCH WILL ATTRACT THOUSANDS OF TEXANS

-Last year, over 682,000 people were arrested for possession of cannabis. This year, on May 6, 2000, an estimated 2000 people from Austin and the surrounding areas will gather to join the largest single direct action for the reform of cannabis law in history, The Millennium Marijuana March.

Founders of this march are Cures Not Wars, The Coalition Against Marijuana Prohibition, (CAMP), International Cannabis Campaign, Cannabis Action Network and more. These groups have organized a coalition that will be protesting with events held in over 90 cities, in 19 countries and on six continents worldwide.

Here in Austin, people will gather at 2nd and Trinity at 12:30PM, and then march to the Capitol steps where several veteran marijuana activists will speak on related issues.

Events will also be taking place in Houston, Dallas and San Marcos. Medical Marijuana is the most important issue this year. At least 5 western states have passed bills allowing for the legal production and availability of marijuana to patients in need. Marchers are asking that a similar bill be passed in Texas.

Also included in the list of demands is a revision of drug education programs, including an honest recognition of the difference between hard core and soft-core drugs. Hard core drugs cause addiction and physical damage to the body, such as: crack, cocaine, tobacco, and alcohol. Soft-core drugs are non-addictive and have minimal negative side effects, such as: marijuana, peyote, and psylocybin.

Cures not Wars is also offering free Ibogaine treatment for anyone who is able to handle his or her own travel expenses. Ibogaine is a drug from the South African rain forest that has been proven to cure drug addiction in the majority of patients studied. Because it is a single dose, and because it extinguishes all forms of withdrawal symptoms, the drug is preferable to other maintenance drug treatments, such as methadone, or the nicotine patch. Ibogaine is currently being used in countries such as Denmark and Panama, but was made illegal in the late 60's.

MMM Europe / Germany

MMM BERLIN
time: May, 5th, 3 p.m.
place: Schloss Charlottenburg (Luisenplatz/Spandauer Damm)
action: Hemp Talk Show with politicians, artists, activists and suprise guests about Wolfgang Neuss, a famous german pro-hemp comedian who died exactly 11 years ago. We expect some friends of him to be there and talk about his opinion on hemp. Then we plan to discuss the MMM action itself in another "stage panel". Inbetween we'll have some fine artists on stage: Ras Donovan, Bats In The Head, Starseed & more

Dear MMM-legalize-activists,

It is good to see the international hemp community is growing.

This is the german section, initiating MMM participations of
Berlin (our "own" MMM action), Frankenthal, Hamburg und Wien.

To support the Millennium Marijuana March we structured a special german
website about the internation legalize initiative with global participation of more than 70 cities so far - something our planet hasn't ever seen before. And it's not done yet. So in case you have contacts in Switzerland, Austria or Germany that might do some MMM action too, please recommend our special MMM website: http://www.hanfnet.org/mmm2000/

For more information about our main event - the HANFPARADE2000 - please
check out our english information website:
http://www.hanflobby.de/hanfparade/2000/akt-eng.html

It's the 4th year now, that we do a HANFPARADE in late August. This year
we hope for even more people than the years before. In 1999 a big german
news agency published it as a fact that about 100.000 people came and
saw - do you like to see some photos? No problem, just switch to:
http://www.hanflobby.de/hanfparade/99/fotos/

As a result of our link request that I send out last month we installed
a lot of international hemp links - so check out if your website is allready linked from our link website:

Montreal, Quebec

Hello from Montreal. This is to reconfirm montreals participation in the
may 2000 event. Could all of you please take the time to respond to me with
an update on YOUR LOCAL EVENT. I realize many of you might lack the
resources or information at this time, but it would help to find out where
you are at. We are planning a very big event here. We have a good budget
and a solid promotions team. Last year we attracted around 5,000
participants. This time, weather permitting, we hope to double or triple
that. We are currently working on getting all the permits to put up a huge
stage with entertainment... to be continued. PS, check out Montreals
cannabis cup review in the latest HIGH TIMES... Please send us your local
info.  I have a hard time being convinced by a simple name, e-mail, or
number on some list, and I plan to try and get in contact with all the
references to figure out what to expect from each city.

Unity on the 6th!

Salut Montreal, Salut tous !!
Glad to hear from you, sounds like Montreal is the
place to be.
Our plans are smaller, we plan on small protests until
the big day (practice makes perfect). We are planning
on getting some streets closed off, and have a old
time street dance and jam....
Our small town has quite a voice, and when used can
be, and has been, heard around the world.
This year we will add our voice to the choir and sing
to the world!

NEW ORLEANS, LA

We will begin our march after Jazz Fest at 8pm. Meet us at St. Ann and Rampart Streets, underneath the Armstrong Park Arch (Louis Armstrong loved his "tea"). Although we are still raising money for the permit, everything seems to be in order, and we're confidant that it'll be a well-attended, fun and peaceful event. The feedback from the community is very supportive.

John Sinclair and Gary Wainwright will be speaking at the end. There will be a reggae band, hemp products, medical marijuana information and legal advice and referrals. Bring your tribal drums, tambourines, second-line umbrellas, Jazz Fest banners, flags, and ribboned sticks. Hold your head high, and STAND FOR SOMETHING! You are NOT alone. Together we can change the world, spread hope, and end this fucking war.

Any proceeds that exceed the permit cost will be divided equally between the local NO AIDS Task Force and Cures-Not-Wars in NYC. :)

NEW YORK, NY

NEW YORK MARCH INFO FINALIZED!

NEW YORK CITY MARCH PERMIT GRANTED IN NYC AFTER SHARPTON HELP After weeks of dilatory tactics and a flat refusal to allow marcher to "gather" any closer to Washington Square than Houston & Broadway, police abruptly left a message on lawyer Jerry Greenberg's machine that the permit had been granted rather than work out details of a meeting with Rev. Al Sharpton troubleshooter Moses Stewart. The permit did not include many of the extras which march organizers had been hoping to get by bringing Stewart into negotiations, such as a float to convey seriously disabled medical marijuana patients.

They will have to bring wheelchairs instead. But the permit is overwise the same as last year--an 80 minute march past City Hall to Battery Park. Organizers had hoped to get a satellite sound permit to allow the parents of drug war victims such as Gideon Busch, Maynard Ferguson, and Patrick Dorismund to address the marchers at City Hall. That permit remains to be negotiated, along with a second stage in upper Battery Park for the Black Coalition on Drugs.

On Saturday, May 6th, protest & help round up stragglers north, south, east & west of Washington Square Park (but not IN the park) from 9 am to 12:30 pm; then walk south to Houston street and a block or so east & you'll hit the "official" parade assembly point (it's too small) at Houston & Broadway. March leaves promptly at 1 PM, reaches City Hall Park just before 2pm.

Last year cops handed out leaflets telling people to skip the Million Marijuana March and go straight to Battery Park, where undercovers incited people looking for "the free pot" to overthrow a sound column, which delayed start of our sound an hour and a half. Well, there is no free pot, no helicopter either. Just a free speech march and rally, with some people bringing their own in order to light up in protest of cannabis prohibition.

Last year there were 47 arrests in Battery Park, 43 in Washington Square Park, only 12 on the Parade, which at 20,000 was the main event of the day, and which went on from 1pm to almost 2:30 pm. Moral of the story: the safest place to be is on the march itself, or waiting along Broadway or at City Hall. Your chances of getting busted are less than 1 in a thousand, because the cops are too busy directing traffic.

If you are from the New York area, you can come to meetings on Sundays at 6 at # 9 Bleecker St one block west of the Bowery. We also have trainings on Saturday at noon, meeting up in front of the Washington Square Hotel until 1pm, then at Bleecker & MacDougal until 2pm. You can also send yr postal address for a free infopack, or just call us at 212-677-7180.

From the 5th Jan the law says that for possesion of 0.2 g carrys the penalty of; from a 50,000 sit (250usd) fine, 3 days prison and a visit to the detox centre.

ASSEMBLE: Pekarna Magdalenske Mreze .
Pekarna is an ex military complex of about 10,000 sq/m which was squatted in 1994 and is now a thriving cultural centre which is home to many artists, musicians and creative people.

So maybe the time is right in Slovenia to show the people the truth about cannabis. We are planning a debate and will invite both sides of the argument to participate. The MMM is an excellent opportunity to bring people toghther to debate the subject.

After the debate there will be a 12 hour concert. Thanks, Paul, Tadej, Ales, Janez
